Judo is a martial art that was created in Japan. Now, it is an Olympic sport and popular worldwide. The idea of competitive judo is to throw down an opponent and immobilize them with a pin, choke or joint-lock. Students learn takedowns, throws and a variety of submission moves.
Although students are taught some striking techniques, they are not allowed in competitions. Training involves forms with a partner and randori, free practice. The philosophy of judo is to put all of your energy to work effectively and to unify the heart, skill and body so they all work in harmony together.
