Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA, is a competitive martial arts that is effective for combat. It includes aspects from a wide range of other martial arts. These martial arts include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Judo, Muay Thai and more.
Students are taught stand-up striking techniques, take-downs, grappling techniques and submissions. Striking techniques include punches, elbow strikes, knees and kicks. The submissions range from arm-bars to knee-locks. MMA is a very practical self-defense tool because of the many different techniques suited for dealing with an attacker. Training involves drills, pad work, bag work and sparring. There are no traditional uniforms and usually there is no ranking system.
